Author Guidelines
The editors of the Russian Journal of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Coloproctology request that all authors conform to the following rules and requirements.
General statements
1. The “Russian Journal of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Coloproctology” accepts for publication scientific articles written in Russian and English.
2. Scientific content of the Journal is presented by original research articles reflecting cutting edge gastroenterology findings and the state of practical management of the gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic diseases; expert reviews, including literature reviews by the speakers of the National College of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for continuing postgraduate education (www.gastrohep.ru) for the special Journal section; clinical cases representing a clinical analysis of a complex or acutely relevant diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterological problem or rare disease.
3. As the official Journal of the Russian Gastroenterological Association (RGA) we publish RGA Clinical Guidelines on the management of gastroenterological diseases. Clinical Guidelines are the subject to the usual peer review procedure adopted in the Journal, moreover the procedure for their creation, consideration and approval is determined by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Clinical Guidelines are upgraded at least once every 3 years.
4. By decision of the RGA Presidium various informational materials that do not pass peer review can also be placed in the journal.
5. The journal accepts only research carried out in compliance with biomedical ethical rules and conforming to recognized standards of Declaration of Helsinki and European Medicines Agency Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Manuscripts must reflect all risks (explicit or potential) in respect of human or animal subjects: treatment with chemical substances (including pharmacological agents), procedures or equipment, as well as any other situations potentially harmful to the research subjects. If the research was carried out in respect of alive humans or animals, authors must confirm that at all research stages they fully complied with the legislation and applicable regulations. Authors should also provide information on approval of their research by an ethical committee, including name of the committee (or respective organization), date and number of the minutes of the meeting where said research was approved. The editors may require authors to provide authorized copies of respective minutes of the meeting. Manuscripts must clearly reflect that all human subjects gave their voluntary informed consent to the research. Authors are responsible for not disclosing in any way personal details of research subjects or clinical study participants. Authors must make sure that manuscripts do not provide any opportunity to identify their subjects.
6. All authors must disclose financial or any other explicit or potential conflicts of interest affecting results or conclusions provided in the manuscript. Information on conflicts of interest is placed after abstract and key words. The following list includes examples of conflicts of interest to be disclosed:
- author or author’s institution at any time receive payment or services from a third party (government, commercial, private foundation, etc.) for any aspect of the submitted work (including but not limited to grants, data monitoring board, study design, manuscript preparation, statistical analyses, etc.);
- relevant financial activities outside the submitted work (contract work, consulting, shareholding interest, fee acceptance, expert reviews) for example, author’s interactions with the work's sponsor that are outside the submitted work);
- patents and copyrights, whether pending or issued;
- other relationships or activities that readers could perceive to have influenced the submitted work.
7. Plagiarism in any way or form is unethical and will not be tolerated. Manuscript authors must provide only original contributions. Plagiarism includes copying text, ideas, images, or data from another source, even from own publications, without giving any credit to the original source. Results of work of other authors must be mentioned with references to original publications (included in the references list).
We kindly ask authors to critically evaluate their manuscript to eliminate self-plagiarism, that is, reuse of their own text or sections of the text (usually without reference) in more than one author's publication.
The plagiarism of ideas, data, parts of published work is detected during the peer review process, as well as after publication by readers’ application. If plagiarism is detected the manuscript will not be published and the article will be retracted with the respective notification in the journal.
The editorial board of the Russian Journal of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Coloproctology informs that all manuscripts are checked using the Antiplagiat - plagiarism screening service that verifies the originality of content submitted before publication against Internet open sources and other sources.
8. Authors should kindly note that submission implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium.
9. Manuscripts should be submitted and are reviewed online at https://www.gastro-j.ru/jour. Upon successful registration, you will be sent an email indicating your user name and password. Submit your manuscript according to the author instructions. You will be able to track the progress of your manuscript through the system. Manuscripts Preparation
1. The journal follows the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors' Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (http://www.icmje.org/).
2. Cover letter. Article must be submitted with a cover letter signed by the head of the institute where the research was performed. You are asked to upload the scan of the document on the website (cover letter form).
3. Text of the manuscript should be in Microsoft Word, font size 12, 1,5 intervals, А4 format. Volume limitations: original research – up to 25 pages, including tables, figures and list of references; reviews — up to 20 pages; clinical cases – up to 15 pages. Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word must be converted into a single file before submission. Please insert your tables and graphics (schemes, figures, etc.) in the main text after the paragraph of its first citation.
4. Title page. Please include the following at the title page: the article title, authors’ names and affiliations, abstract, keywords. Please also include the author conflict of interest/study support items as described above and acknowledgements if necessary.
If the manuscript is submitted in Russian, the title page should be translated into English.
The authors are responsible for the accuracy and relevance of the names of the institutions in which they performed the work.
5. Abstract. The abstract of an original research should be structured according to the following subheadings: “Aim”, “Materials and Methods”, “Results”, “Conclusions”. The abstract of a review should be structured according to the following subheadings: “Aim”, “Key points”, “Conclusion”. The abstract of a clinical case should be structured according to the following subheadings: “Aim”, “Key points”, “Conclusion”. Abstract contains specific provisions reflecting the subject matter and accurately reflects the content of the article. The abstract length is up to 300 words.
6. Кeywords. List three to seven keywords for your article.
7. Original research manuscripts should be presented according to the following subheadings: «Aim», «Materials and Methods», «Results», «Discussion», « Conclusion».
8. Abbreviations. Only conventional abbreviations are allowed.
Please indicate the abbreviation for the term at its first use in abstract or manuscript body unless it is a standard unit of measure.
9. Results of research and observations should be provided with SI system units.
10. Use nonproprietary names of drugs, devices, and other products, unless the specific trade name is essential for the discussion. When editing a manuscript, trade names may be replaced with generic ones. Trade names of drugs and other products must not appear in the article title.
11. Tables. Tables should be submitted in Word. They should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and cited as such in the manuscript. Tables should be provided with a brief descriptive title precisely corresponding to its contents and be self-explanatory.
12. Illustrations (Figures). Illustrations (photos, graphs, figures, maps, etc.) must represent original authors’ contribution. Reproduction of illustrations from other publications or internet resources is prohibited.
The figures will be published in black and white in the printed journal and in colour in the online version.
Please submit figures as gif, jpeg, tiff files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. All figures should be numbered using Arabic numerals and referred to in the text as Figure 1, etc. Рarts of multicomponent drawings are indicated by Latin letters (e.g.: Fig. 1 a, b, c, etc.). Please indicate the preferred position of the figure in the main text by placing it. Illustrations should have a title, if necessary – legends with an explanation of symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters used to identify parts of the illustrations.
13. Information about the authors. The following authors' details must be included in the full text of the article and in “Authors” field box in “Submission” section:
– full first and last names (the initials of any middle names can be added), scientific degree and academic title;
– position and affiliation;
– correspondence information: e-mail address and post address;
– ORСID ID.
Authors are responsible for correct and actual information on authors and affiliation.
Indicate the corresponding author.
14. References. The authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. The editors recommend authors to cite predominantly the sources not older than 10 years. It is undesirable to include in the reference list textbooks and manuals, normative documents (decrees, laws, instructions, etc.), as well as hard-to-reach, low-circulation, local sources, abstracts of dissertations and dissertations.
Self-citation should be justified by the content of the manuscript, excessive self-citation is unacceptable.
Authors are responsible for checking that none of the references cite retracted articles. One can refer to PubMed’s list of retracted publications (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=retracted+publication+[pt]), for articles in Russian – to the retracted publications database of the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (http://monitoring.u0786398.cp.regruhosting.ru/retracted/).
List of references should be provided in accordance with Vancouver style requirements.
References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals in square brackets. References cited only in tables or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with the sequence established by the first identification in the text of the particular table or figure.
The titles of journals should be abbreviated according to the style used for MEDLINE (www.ncbi.nlm .nih.gov/nlmcatalog/journals).
If the cited article has DOI, it must be indicated.
Cited Russian sources should be translated into English, if possible, the English translation of the reference should be cited from the original source. Up to six authors may be listed in the reference. If more, then list the first six authors and represent the rest by «et al.». Please separate initials with full points.

After the submission
- After the submission the corresponding author will receive an e-mail notification of receipt of the manuscript.
- The authors can find Manuscript Review Procedure (ПРОШУАКТИВНУЮССЫЛКУ) on the corresponding page of the site.
- The authors may contact the editors at any time by e-mail editorial@gastro-j.ru, as well as search for updates on manuscript processing using user account on the website www.gastro-j.ru.
- All accepted manuscripts are subject to editing. The editors reserve the right to shorten the articles.
- The corresponding author will receive electronic page proofs to check the copyedited and typeset article before publication. Portable document format (PDF) files of the typeset pages will be sent to the corresponding author via e-mail. The сorresponding author is responsible for checking proofs and the possibility of making corrections on the part of all authors and on behalf of all authors gives consent to the final version publication. Please note that the author is responsible for all statements made in their work, including changes made during the editorial process – authors should check proofs carefully.
Manuscripts not prepared according to the Instructions to Authors will be returned to the author(s) without review.
